Anyone who’s been watching both Raw and Smackdown would know that the Diva that has really made a great impact on any of the brands for the past year and half is none other than Melina.From that oh so hot entrance (what full-blooded male would not want their girl to have the ability to make that kind of split! Woohoo!!!) to that bad girl slash skank slash celebrity persona, Melina has class act written all over. Yes, Candice Michelle may be more popular – which is pretty understandable given that Candice is like Viagra to all men. But Melina, by far, is a more complete package. She acts well, has great mic skills, and is actually a pretty decent wrestler. Anyone who has seen her match with Trish Stratus would immediately notice it.

With Melina’s transfer to Raw though – a whole host of opportunities has suddenly opened up for her. She now has a very clear path to taking the Women’s Championship, something she would never have been able to do in Smackdown because the title resides in Raw. It is also a great opportunity for her to really show her mettle as a Diva because she now has to contend with all of top WWE divas, which are all Raw talents. This is a make or break opportunity for her.

And she has actually performed admirably. The new push she is getting with the new story angle between her and Mick Foley will definitely give her the necessary screentime to really bring her to the fore. I would not be surprised if I see her get the Women’s Championship from Lita before the year ends!

Finally Trish Stratus has found the words to explain her decision not to renew her contract with WWE. What it finally came down to: the need to grow and do some new things.

The diva points out that if you combine her years in WWE with her years in the fitness modeling industry, she has been working and on the road for almost a decade. She has done her growing up years while constantly travelling, a big part of it on tour with the WWE superstars.

Trish says that she wants to take time and enjoy the fruits of her labor. She’ll enjoy having some “me time”. It will be fun to have barbecues at home and go watch the hockey games of her nephew.

The decision to retire wasn’t easy to make. Having spent so much time with them, the WWE superstars have become a part of the diva. In fact it is they, and the fans, that the diva says she will miss the most.

When interviewed, the other divas have expressed surprise, shock and sadness that she is leaving. Ashley Massaro and Candice Michelle state that Trish Stratus was their mentor, helping them get started and showing them all the tricks and the real work of being a diva. Trish was in fact Ashley’s first tag team partner when she was in RAW.

Mickie James whose WWE career began as Trish’s number one fan says that she is shocked and sad to see her idol go. Melina says she hoped Trish would stay longer so that they could have worked together more. In the end though all the divas respect Trish for choosing to retire while she’s at the highpoint of her career.

So everything is set for her final match. On September 17, 2006 she wil face Lita in the ring for one more chance to be the WWE Women’s Champion. As Trish puts it:

“No matter where my final match took place, it would always be special…but if this were a fairy tale, the writer couldn’t come up with a better scenario. My family, my friends…I couldn’t ask for a more perfect scenario. To survive and prosper in this industry, all the sacrifices, you have to have the support of the people closest to you, and to go out in front of the people who always supported me is fitting for the moment.”

“Our careers (Trish and Lita) have paralleled since we came in…going out, there wouldn’t be another ass I’d like to whoop as much as I’d like to whoop her ass at Unforgiven. She and I in the ring standing face to face just tells the story, and so much more will unfold at Unforgiven. It would be my honor to go out by whooping her ass one more time.”
